Job Summary:
The Materials Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the movement, tracking, and reconciliation of cannabis and non-cannabis materials within production. This role ensures timely availability of materials, accurate documentation of usage and waste, and adherence to compliance regulations. The supervisor leads a team of material coordinators, ensures efficient material flow from the warehouse to production pods, and plays a key role in resolving variances through detailed tracking and analysis. Additionally, the Materials Supervisor ensures materials are prepared and verified in advance of production schedules to prevent delays.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Material Flow Management
- Ensure daily verification of the Strain in Stock schedule to ensure production readiness and proactively communicate any risks or material shortages that could disrupt production.
- Manage the flow of cannabis and non-cannabis materials between the warehouse and production pods, ensuring accurate, timely delivery with proper labeling and documentation.
- Verify material quantities and weights before and after production batches to ensure consistency with production requirements.
- Track production material consumption and waste, documenting any deviations and investigating discrepancies.
- Ensure system Bill of Materials (BOMs) are accurate and cross-checked against master files, addressing discrepancies with production and inventory teams.
- Maintain KPIs and provide regular reports on material consumption and inventory.
Variance Tracking & Resolution
- Collaborate with production teams to conduct root cause analysis on variances, using system tracking tools to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Reconcile materials post-production, ensuring proper documentation and addressing any differences between physical inventory and system records.
Team Leadership & Training
- Lead and train a team of material coordinators, ensuring adherence to SOPs, safety protocols, and efficient material movement.
- Foster collaboration between warehouse and production teams to maintain an organized storage environment.
Inventory & Waste Management
- Conduct regular cycle counts and monitor inventory levels to maintain accurate records of all material movements.
- Ensure production materials are prepared and available at least one week in advance of scheduled production to avoid delays.
- Track and report material waste, analyzing patterns to recommend strategies for reducing waste and improving material efficiency.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with state regulations and company policies regarding cannabis and non-cannabis material tracking, storage, and reporting.
- Report on material accuracy, inventory status, and waste to management.
Warehouse Operations
- Oversee and manage all warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, handling, shipping, and securing goods.
- Accountable for managing inbound and outbound transfers between the warehouse and production areas.
- Ensure the safe handling of products, ensuring pallets are securely wrapped and correctly stored at all times.
- Oversee the coordination of full truckload (FTL), less than truckload (LTL), and courier service shipments, ensuring optimal logistics.
- Ensure that all products are dispatched with the necessary documentation and loaded efficiently to meet scheduled timelines.
- Responsible for ensuring efficient and accurate loading and unloading of trailers and shipping containers.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of material handling, inventory management, and waste tracking, particularly within the cannabis industry.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel for material tracking and reporting.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage a team and coordinate with various departments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve material usage variances and system discrepancies.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and ensure materials are ready well in advance of production schedules.
- Knowledge of cannabis industry regulations is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- 2+ years of experience in inventory control or a manufacturing environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically capable of standing for long periods or entire shifts.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Must have full use of arms and fingers for fine manipulation of cannabis, making boxes, and applying compliance stickers.
- Must be capable of repetitive motion using hands and arms.
Work Schedule (Exempt):
This is a full-time, exempt position. The role requires the flexibility to work the hours necessary to meet business needs, which may include extended hours, weekends, and holidays. Work schedules and expectations may be adjusted based on operational priorities and organizational demands.
