Job Summary:

The Senior Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing strategic and operational HR support across assigned business units, locations, or regions. This role serves as a trusted partner to leadership, driving employee relations, performance management, and compliance initiatives while ensuring alignment with company policies and business objectives. 

The Senior HR Generalist independently manages complex employee relations matters, leads workplace investigations, and provides guidance on sensitive and high-risk situations. This role balances legal compliance with practical business solutions, identifies trends, and implements proactive strategies to improve employee engagement, reduce risk, and enhance organizational effectiveness. 

Additionally, the Senior HR Generalist contributes to the development and refinement of HR processes, policies, and programs to support a scalable and consistent employee experience across multiple markets.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary HR partner for assigned departments, sites, or regions, providing guidance to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.  
  • Lead and conduct complex employee relations investigations, including matters involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations.  
  • Provide recommendations on corrective action, up to and including termination, ensuring consistency, fairness, and legal compliance.  
  • Coach and advise managers on performance management, conflict resolution, employee development, and team effectiveness.  
  • Manage and resolve moderate to high-risk employee relations issues, balancing business needs with compliance and risk mitigation.  
  • Identify trends in employee relations, turnover, and engagement; develop and implement proactive solutions.  
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across multiple jurisdictions.  
  • Partner with leadership on organizational changes, workforce planning, and restructuring initiatives.  
  • Support and guide for leave of absence processes, accommodations, and return-to-work planning in partnership with HR and Payroll teams.  
  • Review and maintain HR documentation, including disciplinary actions, investigation summaries, and employee records, ensuring accuracy and consistency.  
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR policies, SOPs, and programs.  
  • Collaborate cross-functional with Talent Acquisition, Payroll, Safety, and Operations to support business initiatives and ensure alignment.  
  • Provide training and guidance to managers and employees on HR-related topics, policies, and compliance requirements.  
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior HR team members, including HR Administrators and HR Generalists.  

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of employee relations practices, employment law, and compliance requirements across multiple states.  
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough, unbiased, and legally defensible workplace investigations.  
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risk and recommend appropriate actions.  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust with stakeholders at all levels.  
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.  
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.  
  • Proficient in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.  
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with a strong focus on employee relations.  
  • Experience supporting multi-state operations and knowledge of varying state employment laws preferred.  
  • Experience in high-growth, manufacturing, or cannabis industry environments is a plus.  
  • HR certification (e.g., SPHR, SHRM-SCP) is required.  

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.  
  • Capable of repetitive hand and arm motions as well as extended periods of typing.  
  • Capable of looking at a screen for extended periods or entire shifts.  
  • Ability to travel as needed to support assigned locations and business needs.  

Work Schedule (Exempt):

This is a full-time, exempt position. The role requires flexibility to work on the hours necessary to meet business needs, which may include extended hours, weekends, and holidays. Work schedules and expectations may be adjusted based on operational priorities and organizational demands.
